Series of Reactive Sound Toys

A set of studies for reactive graphics and sounds. Some are interactive, others are mechanical virtual machines that produce sounds, but enable the user to alter the mechanisms. Here are a few screen shots of some of them. Each one has taken between 1 and 2 days to create. Currently I have created nine little play things. Each of the soundtoys is a Mac OSX Cocoa / ObjC application using custom made core audio generators and digital sound filters.

Granular synthesis is manipulated by a free flowing form of elastic elements. To use first mouse down to draw within area then release mouse. Then manipulate form by pulling it around.

A synthesis algorithm is controlled by the rotating number patterns. When matching number of each square collide they alter the ambient tones. You are able to add more number squares, resize, and move them around.

A rotating square contains material elements that bind to each other by magnetic forces and the surface of the square, but under a gravitational pull they slowly fall to bottom. The structure and position of elements alters the granular synthesis sound generation.

A box of numbers responds to the movement of the mouse, altering the granular synthesis.

An evolving pattern of binary numbers is mapped into digital wave forms.
