Disculpen La Felicidad - Joumana Mourad, Ijad Dance Company

A Solo Dance Installation,

lulling poetical assumptions of conflicting human nature
The coexistence of paradoxes that we humans have to contain in our internal and external lives, and the contradicting emotions, rationalities that they inflict are the starting point of this piece. .
Within this work the body becomes a labyrinth out of which emerge a multitude of the self, contradictory emotions , feelings, energies and dynamics. The movements embody and express all this multitude by pushing them to another limit with the help of the voice of Esperanca Abad

The piece resulted from the collaboration between

choreographer Joumana Mourad, Ijad Dance Company
director Francisco Alfonsin,
interactive digital artist Paul Webb (me)
and scenographer Erik Rehl.

With this colloboration with Ijad, I conceived and created all of the generative visuals that are projected onto 3 surfaces during a performance. The generative projections are created by using custom software which is able to generate and animate images of roses growing. This included the stems, leafs, petals and thorns. The roses were created so that they could be directed and grown in different directions, with different formations, such as sizes, number of leafs, stems, branches and thorns. These projections are not prepared images but are generated live during the performance, and the roses are generated using a unique custom designed collage technique that uses a large collection of scanned images of rose componants. The custom software I wrote for this project uses an underlying model of a rose structure and how roses grow. (Growth and Form)

The other major aspect of the project I undertook was to recompose the first 6 minutes of the music score . The remaining music is a 60s fluxus work by Esperanca Abad.
