Boat At Sea is a reactive-generative animation that works on the simple narrative of a small boat all alone at sea. Reacting to an overall background sound level, this sea can go from being calm, peaceful, to start raging, thus making the boat struggle in its waves. Then the boat can be rocked and thrown around at the sea’s mercy. Night transforms into day, and day into night in an endless cycle. If the background noise is too loud for too long, a storm will start, then clouds grow and throw out bolts of lightening at the boat. Only when the sound is peaceful, the storm disperses so the boat is able to rest. Albatrosses circle above the boat, and fish swim in the sea.
This work is a metaphor for our everyday struggles and states of being within an uncertain world, and how its changing conditions affect our own.
